 1.   IQ——Intelligence Quotient

2.  EQ——Emotion Quotient

3.  AQ——Adversity Quotient

4. FQ——Financing Quotient

5.  LQ——Love Quotient

The French constitute the most brilliant and the most dangerous nation in Europe and the best qualified in turn to become an object of admiration, hatred, pity or terror but never indifference. Happiness constitutes the most desirable and undesirable part in life and the best qualified in turn to become a spotlight of admiration, greed, ambition and corruption.

下面在第二段的开头还发现一个可用的structural transition——on the face of it,推荐一些“精”一点同义短语:at the outset / commencement,first off,for openers.

Aunt Sally

So OK, it’s easy to be rude about South Africa of all the aunt sallies…available there is none on which there is such general agreement, and small chance that she’ll hit back in any way which hurts. (Punch)

And HSBC is sitting pretty

sit pretty:
(infml) in a fortunate situation, esp when others are unlucky.
eg. I was properly insured so I’m sitting pretty.

They bought their house while prices were low, so now they are sitting pretty.

sitting duck:
someone or something that is very easy for an enemy to shoot or attack.
eg. With their bullets all gone, the soldiers were sitting ducks for the enemy.

sit on the fence:
hesitate or fail to decide between two opposite courses of action, sets of beliefs, etc.

sit up:
not go to bed until later than the usual time
